Abstract

The Lunnan Ordovician Oil-gas Field that is located in the middle part of Lunnan paleouplift that is the southern wing of Tabei Uplift is the first giant marine carbonate one in China. The field is discovered with the first achievement of high-yield industrial currents of oil and gas from Well LN-1 in May 23, 1988 and it has held the total proved oil geologic reserves in-place of 1.878×109t till the end of 2008. The top of Ordovician limestone in Lunnan area is a large and long-term weathering buried hill. An integrated anticline is developed in the inner of the buried hill. The cap beds are made up of Late Ordovician-Carboniferous-Triassic mudstone or Silurian argillaceous sandstone and two series of source rocks are composed of Cambrian-Lower Ordovician and Middle-Upper Ordovician carbonate rocks and marlite. The main exploration targets are the carbonate karst fractured/caved reservoirs and the inside fractured/caved ones under the surface of Ordovician buried hill. The history and experience of exploration and exploitation with the technology and methods are reviewed in detail.
