Abstract

Augen limestone develops in the lower, the middle and the top parts of Lower Permian Maokou Formation in Wangcang Area, Sichuan Basin. The total thickness of augen limestone is up to 102.77 m, which accounts for 53.27, of the thickness of Maokou Formation. The knot-like augens, which are commonly 10~20cm in diameter, is composed of pure carbonate rock and is up to 40,~ 50, of the total thickness. The eyelids (matrix), which area carbonate rock with relatively high argillaceous content, are distributed as bands with thickness of 1~5 cm around the augens. Genetic analysis shows that Primary sediments of augens and matrix formed respectively in an open platform environment and the limited platform and differential compaction and differential pressolution transformed these primal layered sediments into augens and eyelids. It is deemed that augen limestone is a product of both sedimentation and diagenesis.
