Abstract
Based on the data of drilled cores from Well L16 in eastern Panyu Uplift, Zhujiangkou Basin, it is shown that the Miocene Zhujiang Formation consists of clastic rock, carbonate rock and mixed clastic/carbonate rock in lithology. 11 depositional microfacies can be divided in Zhujiang Formation. A depositional evolution sequence which includes delta, shoreland, carbonate platform and then shelf is setup from Early to Late Miocene stara. The interpretation of seismic and geological data proves the existence of early Dongsha delta sediments, so it is suggested that the Lower Member of Zhujiang Formation, which means the principal depositional part of it, should consist of the ancient Zhujiang delta and the Dongsha delta. Restoration of depositional environment and evolution has described a continuous change from continental to marine deposition in Subsequence SQ2 (TST) during Miocene Zhujiang, that is a process from retrograding clastic to prograding carbonate deposition..
