Abstract

Based on investigation and analysis of outcrop, experimental and seismic data, thick organic-rich Lower Carboniferous Menggongao shale develops in Xiangzhong Depression, Hunan. Result of geochemical analysis indicates that the general kerogen is commonly Type-Ⅱand the average value of Ro is commonly >2.0, in the shale with overmature evolution, which means abundant source of hydrocarbon. It is shown that this shale has good conditions of gas accumulation and preservation because of week tectonic activities and good gas-sealing capacity.
